As luck would have it, just as I was ready to sit down and get back into composing, the news about Finale broke. Since then, I have tried Dorico out in a few different ways. I have to say, there are some very nice and intuitive features to the software, but there is still so much I have to learn. Between converting Finale files and reorganizing my work flow on the computer, I had to admit that I’m a bit overwhelmed. So the composing I wanted to do hasn’t happened yet, but I’m interested to see how the process will feel going through Dorico from start to finish.
The 2024-2025 school year begins this week. It’s enlightening to see the vast difference of attitudes and feelings between both of our sons have towards going back to school. Our home is a raging sea of emotions right now- I can only hope that once the school year begins, it starts to become more peaceful.
My doctoral work continues this week as well. In addition to Wind Ensemble, I am also going to be taking a course on Film Scoring. I’m excited to start cranking through this degree and getting one step closer to my comp exams (and ABD) status.
