A Day in the Life... S01 E138

The fall semester is in full swing! 2 courses towards my doctorate, full-time teaching, coaching travel soccer, and working out three times per week- it’s a packed schedule, but it’s balanced.

This semester, I am taking a class on film scoring. It is quite outside of my comfort zone, but I will certainly keep an open mind and try my best. This week’s assignment was to create a score for a 30 second commercial. It took over 2 hours, but I was happy with the final result. It’s been 20 years since I’ve used DAW software, so between learning Logic Pro 11 and Dorico Pro (for notation) I’m a bit overwhelmed.

Last week, I received 2 “rejection” letters from contests I entered - one for orchestral scores and one for brass ensemble. While I know this is part of the process of growing as a composer, it still stings a bit.
